An antique ring from the 1860s with an exceptional surprise! Beneath the bezel is a tiny Stanhope viewer in which is a microphotograph of a lady.
This minescule photo is the work of René Dagron, (1819-1900) who started his career as a portrait photographer, later moving into the genre of "Microphotography".
He found many possibilities working in this field, leaning particularly towards the novelty market, adding minute viewing lenses to jewels.
In 1859 the first ever microfilm patent was granted to Dagron. His "photo-micro-jewels" were widely admired in France and England and he presented a set of his microfilms to Queen Victoria.
